January 1st is the first day
of a new year (2013), a “strategic” time to start all over from the beginning.
Some people put a great hope in such a day like this, make it very important
moment to them. They think that if they can start a year without making a mess,
they will have more courage to face the rest of the year. Yet once they make a
mistake, that great hope suddenly disappears, replaced with gloomy sight of
unperfectness, broken hope that the year will be better than the previous one, and
a great feeling of guilty. What a poor view.
Even this opinion seems ridiculous, it
does attack some believers. The image of sin as one form of a mess is so
frightening; no!!no!! the right word for this is “so paralyzing”, “so
captivating”, for it kills every hope that we can come before God’s throne of
grace with confidence (Heb. 4:16). How come? Sin proves to be a stumbling
block, flopping those who are in their way of heavenly stair (to a place where
He is present) down back to the zero (0) ground. If it happens again and again
and again, they will never arrive to that place. Finally, series of failures
drive them to an end of giving up.
Counting
on feeling in deciding things is not a wrong thing, but not in this case. When
we trust God who’s able to make all things new, we have no longer depended upon
our own feeling about a day in our life. It’s true that we can make mistake, it’s
true that we are sinful persons, yet don’t let it stop us from setting our spiritual
eyes to the reason of our being on earth, God.
We
are not talking about God who will tolerate sin, we are talking about His open
grace while it is still open for us through new days He gives. Those who are
blessed are those who can see that everyday is a new start given gracefully by
the Lord of new things.
Let’s see each day God’s given to us as a new chance for us to live a life
better than yesterday according to His plan in our life.
Father, by knowing that I
am so fragile to sin, I realize that I will never survive without You. Help me
to live a life according to Your strength, not mine. And, thank you for the day
that You gave, Amen.
